“(Sometimes) Elon Musk lives below the poverty line.” In an interview, this curious phrase about the richest man in the world was said in 2022 by his former partner, Grimes. She was referring to his small house, barely 35m2, which we know today in an image thanks to the billionaire’s biographer.
The shocking photo was shared by Walter Isaacson, who is writing a biography about Elon Musk scheduled for release on September 12. The journalist and author has also published works on Steve Jobs, Leonardo da Vinci, Benjamin Franklin, and Albert Einstein.
It is a two-bedroom house in Boca Chica, Texas. For Business Insider, it has a value of just 50 thousand dollars.
According to Isaacson, “in 2020, Musk decided to sell his five big houses and have as his main residence this spartan two-bedroom house in Boca Chica, where we would meet, and he would sit at this wooden table and make phone calls.”
In the bio, Isaacson will explain why Elon Musk decided to sell his other homes. However, the billionaire has said he wants to get out of his belongings to help finance his plans.
This is the living room of Elon Musk’s small house.
The curious image shared by Elon Musk’s biographer shows the house’s living room, with a katana sword on the coffee table, a rocket-shaped sculpture, and some games. There is also a Tesla Plaid Mode jacket hanging from a chair.
Another prominent item is a poster for a sci-fi pulp magazine, Amazing Stories, on her kitchen table. Mass transit spacecraft appear in it, recalling Musk’s plans to travel to Mars with SpaceX.

There is also a two-door fridge, sink, and other simple items.
According to Forbes, Elon Musk’s fortune amounts to 229 billion dollars. Owner of companies such as SpaceX, Tesla, and X (formerly Twitter), he is firmly at the head of the world’s richest.
However, Isaacson highlights his practical sense of life by photographing his small house. Oh, the irony.
